Union Minister for Industry Dr Charlie Than inspected the cement production process at the Max Myanmar Cement Factory in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory yesterday afternoon.

During the tour, the Union minister addressed the extensive need for cement for reconstruction due to loss and damage caused by the earthquake, urging full-capacity production to expedite rehabilitation, advance stocking of spare parts for continuous operation, increased cement output to aid the population and stabilize prices, enhanced research for disaster-resistant products, and prioritized distribution of factory-produced cement to earthquake-affected areas. The Union minister stated that any needs or difficulties in operating the factory and maintaining continuous production should be openly reported, and efforts will be made to address them.

The Max Myanmar Cement Factory experienced slight tilting of the kiln, transformer oil leakage, and damage to rollers due to the strong earthquake. However, inspection and repair work were carried out promptly, and cement distribution has continued since 3 April, with a total of 10,150 tonnes sold to date.

The Union minister then visited the Paper Mill (Yeni) in Yeni, Bago Region, and inspected the construction of facilities there to provide shelter for employees from Nay Pyi Taw.

The Union minister then met with staff cleaning the building intended to house employees from Nay Pyi Taw, acknowledged their efforts to ensure a comfortable living environment, and highlighted the solidarity among employees. He also emphasized the need for teamwork to quickly complete building, utility, and toilet renovations, arrange the timely relocation of employees from Nay Pyi Taw to completed buildings, and provide them with necessary subsidies.
