Choose safe foods: First priority for consumers

IN the modern era, governments prioritize food security to ensure that their citizens never have to worry about having enough to eat. However, this focus on food security must also be coupled with rigorous food safety measures to prevent potential health disorders and diseases stemming from the consumption of unsafe foods.

Various government departments and ministries have taken on the responsibility of periodically inspecting food items in the market. They diligently enforce rules and regulations, holding those who flout these standards accountable. Their vigilance serves to protect consumers’ interests, as many of them are consumers themselves. By cracking down on unethical business practices, they aim to discourage greed-driven actions and improper sales tactics in the fiercely competitive marketplace.

Numerous government bodies have joined forces. Their collective mission is to combat unscrupulous business practices in the production and distribution of consumer goods. Their efforts are particularly focused on ensuring that food items do not contain inappropriate dyes and chemicals that could pose risks to consumers’ health. They also compile lists of foods that should be avoided and make them accessible to the public.

At present, there are individuals in the business world who prioritize profit over people’s health. Some of these unscrupulous businesspersons manufacture products with excessive amounts of banned chemicals and dyes, which can have long-term detrimental effects on consumers’ health. They brazenly sell these unsafe foods in domestic markets and even in school canteens, with little regard for the well-being of innocent consumers and students. In response, various departments, organizations, and social groups are actively disseminating lists of unsafe foods to protect consumers’ health.

The consumption of safe and nutritious foods plays a pivotal role in elevating the health standards of the people in Myanmar. The food safety chain encompasses various stages, including harvesting, storage, manufacturing, production, management, distribution, processing, and consumption. Despite the ongoing efforts of government departments to prevent the presence of unsafe foods in the market, many consumers still unwittingly encounter hazardous food products.

Preventing the distribution of unsafe goods and foods is a matter of national importance, requiring the cooperation of consumer awareness and the dedication of relevant government departments and ministries. Only when they work together harmoniously to combat the presence of unsafe foods will consumers be shielded from the potential dangers. It is imperative to raise public awareness regarding the importance of selecting safe foods for daily consumption. In doing so, everybody can safeguard their health and longevity.
