After the strong earthquake on 28 March, there were 104 aftershocks by the evening of 8 April. The number of aftershocks decreased each day, and their strength also noticeably weakened, as stated by the Meteorology and Hydrology Department.

Strong earthquakes can cause aftershocks, and aftershocks will likely continue after the main earthquake. In 2012, a strong earthquake also caused about 100 aftershocks. The shifting of the earth takes time to settle back into its normal state, which is why aftershocks can happen.

After the strong earthquake in Mandalay on 28 March, there were 104 aftershocks until the evening of 8 April. The number of aftershocks decreased each day and their strength noticeably weakened. The strongest aftershock on 8 April was a 3.9 magnitude at 5 pm.

Earthquakes are natural disasters that cannot be predicted in terms of location, strength or time. They can happen at any time, in any season. Therefore, as the Meteorology and Hydrology Department has advised, it is important to be prepared and plan for how to respond to earthquakes instead of being fearful.
