The government of Myanmar has quickly assessed the damage in earthquake-affected areas and is carrying out timely rescue operations. Besides, humanitarian aid from overseas has been arranged for the earthquake victims. The aid materials, donated by the Vietnamese government arrived yesterday afternoon at Yangon International Airport.

The shipment, weighing 22,139 kilogramme, includes tarpaulins, food and medical supplies. Upon arrival, the materials were received by officials from the Yangon Region government, including Chief Minister U Soe Thein and other regional government ministers, along with representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement.

Lt-Gen Nguyen Tuan Ang, Director-General of the Department of Fire Fighting and Rescuing, was also present to hand over the aid materials. The Yangon Region Chief Minister officially received the aid on behalf of the government.
