A coordination meeting to further enhance search and rescue operations in the earthquake-affected areas of Mandalay Region and to continue rehabilitation work as soon as possible was held at the Central Command Conference Hall yesterday, with the attendence of Chief Minister U Myo Aung, Lt-Gen Myo Moe Aung of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), Commander of the Central Command Brig-Gen Kyaw Ko Htike, the Deputy Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, regional government ministers and departmental officials.
First, the Region’s Chief Minister delivered an opening speech on enhancing and effectively implementing search and rescue and clean-up operations. Following this, the Commander and various departmental officials detailed the swift and effective execution of search and rescue operations based on priority levels in the earthquake-affected areas.
Afterwards, Lt-Gen Myo Moe Aung emphasized that departmental officials must be aware of the actual situation on the ground and carry out relief and rescue operations swiftly and effectively, provide prompt medical treatment and necessary healthcare to the injured, and offer full support to international relief teams to ensure their effective and successful operations.
Then, Lt-Gen Myo Moe Aung and the Commander inspected the earthquake-damaged Great Wall Hotel, U Hla Thein Dhamma Beikman, Jivitadana Sangha Hospital (Mandalay), Nadi Myanmar Hotel Mandalay, Mandalay University, and a location at the 385 mile and five-furlong mark on the expressway to assess relief and rescue operations and presented cash awards to the relief teams.
