UNION Minister for Informa­tion U Maung Maung Ohn, ac­companied by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, attended the books donation ceremony of Myanmar Librar­ies Foundation held in Yangon yesterday.

In his speech, the Union Minister said a total of 410 libraries were opened in dis­tricts and townships and pro­vided free book rental services for the public and young peo­ple to ensure access to litera­ture, improve their knowledge, spend their time effectively, know what is right and what is wrong and produce good citizens for the country since the Community Centres were established.

The ordinary book renting processes such as book and journal registration, drafting catalogue and book rental is upgraded into a digital library system and the Digital Library Management System is being adopted at 102 township of­fices.

The mobile library service is also launched for the promo­tion of reading. It also drafts the library law and makes ef­forts to develop the village and ward libraries.

The Myanmar Libraries Foundation provided books, journals and facilities to ward and village libraries. The foun­dation also constructed 343 li­braries using K460.3 million between 2011 and 2016 and provided furniture supplies to 225 libraries between 2011 and 2016.

After the remark of the re­gional chief minister, U Kyaw San, patron of the foundation explained the working process­es of the foundation.

The Union minister and the chief minister gave K5 million donated by the Yangon Region Libraries Supervisory Committee to Myanmar Li­braries Foundation Chairman U Nyunt Swe.

Then, the foundation chairperson donated books for the libraries in four dis­tricts of Yangon to respective librarians.

Deputy Minister for Agri­culture, Livestock and Irriga­tion Dr Aung Gyi donated 400 copies of books — 200 copies of the “Book on the collection of writings concerned with Father in the heart” and 250 copies of the “Book on the collection of writings about Agri-Livestock-Irrigation” to Myanmar Libraries Founda­tion.

Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn then presided over a meeting on holding of Myan­mar Motion Picture Academy Awards Ceremony for 2019, 2020 and 2022 at the meeting hall of the Film Promotion Di­vision of IPRD in Bahan.

During the meeting, the Union minister discussed the holding of the Myanmar Mo­tion Picture Academy Awards Ceremony and the participa­tion of artistes from the film, music and theatrical fields.

After the meeting, the Un­ion minister and party enjoyed the “The Teacher” film shown at Thamada Cinema.

In the afternoon, the Un­ion minister held a meeting on the organization of the new Executive Committee of Myan­mar Music Association (Cen­tral) and the development of the music field with Myanmar Music Association (Central) at the meeting hall of MRTV.

During the meeting, the Union minister said it can be seen that the acting Executive Committee of Myanmar Music Association (Central) arranged the welfare of artistes from the music field and participated in State-level ceremonies and entertainment during one year and a half establishment of the committee. Currently, all the musicians should participate in returning to normal situa­tions. The arrangements are also made to develop the music field and to emerge the new executive committee mem­bers, said the Union minister.
