SUPERVISED by the Anti-Ille­gal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illicit trade under the law.

Under the instructions of the Chairman of the Anti-Il­licit Trade Task Force, a team led by the head of the Lashio Township Customs Depart­ment conducted inspections on 8 July.

Th e y co n f i s c a t e d K61,482,500 worth of clothes and consumer goods without official documents from an Isuzu truck (approximately K16 million), a Nissan Condor truck (approximately K19 mil­lion) and a Hino Ranger truck (approximately K23 million). The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.

Similarly, a combined team under the supervision of the Kachin State Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force made inspections at the Nantsiaung combined checkpoint on 12 July.

Officials seized 1,760 kilo­grammes of restricted precur­sor chemicals – Ammonium Nitrate – worth K1.76 million from a 12-wheel truck head­ing from Mandalay to Mohnyin township. The action was tak­en under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

Afterwards, a total of 9.1748 tonnes of illegal tim­bers worth K3,785,364 were captured in Mindon, Kamma and Natmauk townships under the management of the Mag­way Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force. The action was taken under the Forest Law.

Similarly, on 14 July, a to­tal of illegal teak timber worth K989,076 was seized in Bago and Thayawady districts under the supervision of the Bago Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force.

The action was taken un­der the Forest Law.

In addition, the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) combined check­point seized K3 million worth of 100 gas stoves that exceeded the Import Declaration (ID) from a truck. The action was taken under the Customs Pro­cedures. Therefore, 13 cases of seizure (approximately K129,016,940) were made on 8, 12 and 14 July, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee.
