A Commanding Officer-Level Flag Meeting between the border guard forces of Myanmar and Bangladesh was held in Maungtaw, Rakhine State, on 23 March.

The meeting was attended by 10 Myanmar representatives led by Commanding Officer Officiating Police Lt-Col Kyaw Naing Soe of Border Guard Police Force No 1, and 12 representatives from Bangladesh led by Lt-Col Sheikh Khalid Mohammad Iftekhar, Commanding Officer of Bangladesh Border Guard Force No. 2 (Teknaf).

The meeting discussed matters related to the prevention of cross-border crimes in the border areas between the two countries, illegal border crossings, drug risk prevention, border security and the rule of law, real-time exchange of information between the two border guards.

The two parties also discussed educating the people in the border area and the terrorist attacks committed by ARSA and RSO terrorist groups in Myanmar by illegally entering Myanmar.

After the meeting, Myanmar representatives handed over 41 Bangladeshi citizens who had already been prosecuted in line with Myanmar’s domestic law to the Bangladesh Border Guard Force No 2 as per the procedures.
