MANAGED by the Anti-illegal Trade Steering Committee, efforts are being made to take action against illegal trades under the law. On 21 March, an inspection team led by the Rakhine State Department of Forest conducted inspections Taungup Township and seized 3.5544 tonnes of illegal timber (estimated value of K355,440) under the Forest Law.

In addition, a customs team on duty conducted inspections at the Myanmar International Port (Thilawa) Container Checkpoint and confiscated construction materials (estimated value of K6,000,000) which were different from the products declared in the Import Declaration (ID).

Similarly, consumer goods (estimated value of K12,600,000) that were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID) were seized under the Customs Law at the Myanmar Port Container Inspection station.

On 23 March, detergent powder packages (estimated value of K2,000,000) mixed with the products declared in the Import Declaration (ID) were seized from a vehicle driven from Myawady to Yangon at the Mayanchaung Permanent Checkpoint.

In Magway Region, combined inspection teams seized 2.9262 tonnes of illegal timber (estimated value of K292,620) in Sedoktara Township, Minbu District, 7,000 gallons of refined diesel oil on the Pakkoku-Yesagyo Road in Yesagyo Township, (totally estimated value of K35,292,620) under the law.

On 24 March, 1.1260 tonnes of illegal timber (estimated value of K39,410) were seized under the Forest Law in Thonze Forest Reserve in Thayawady District, Bago Region. Similarly, 3.0737 tonnes of illegal timbers (estimated value of K4,840,000) were also seized along with the three vehicles in Kanbalu Township in Sagaing Region.

Therefore, a total of 14 arrests (estimated value of K61,127,470) was made on 21, 23 and 24 March, the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee stated.
