THE celebration of the 76th anniversary of the Myanma Radio and Television was held in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

 The ceremony was attended by Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn, Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations U Aung Naing Oo, Union Minister for Electricity and Energy U Aung Than Oo, Union Minister for Commerce Dr Pwint San, Deputy Minister U Ye Tint, the permanent secretary, departmental heads, MRTV staff, guests and the staff of MRTV retransmission stations online.

First, the MRTV staff performed the “MRTV and A Good Day” song and the record video clip of the 76 years journey of the MRTV was played.

 In his remark, Union Information Minister U Maung Maung Ohn said the MRTV which was initiated with the name of Rangoon Radio established on 15 February 1946 reaches its 76 years now. It stands grandly so far due to the efforts of all staff.

The ministry is working hard to become one that the country relies on in addition to the main duties such as to inform, educate and entertain and also provide modern and active programmes. It also cooperates with various artistes and launched a new MRTV News Channel on 1 February. It makes plans to air new programmes and channels for the people.

The staff and artistes should work together when the ministry tries to ensure State stability and development from the corner of media.

The Union ministers and other relevant officials gave awards to the outstanding staff.

Then, Director-General U Ye Naing handed over K16,607,000 worth of uniforms for MTRV staff to the deputy director-general.

The MRTV staff entertained the “Living MRTV” song and Pianist Kun Zaw music band, singers and Inzali Anyeint also presented their performances.

 The Union minister then presented a flower bouquet to the artistes and concluded the ceremony.

The MRTV is the very first radio and broadcasting service of the country and running with the objectives to inform, educate and entertain.

On 15 February 1946, Rangoon Radio adopted the name of Burma Broadcasting Service-BBS and colourful TV broadcasting started on 1 November 1980.

Currently, there are MRTV HD, MRTV News, MRTV NRC, MRTV Farmers', MRTV Parliament, MRTV Sports channels, including MITV (English language programme), Radio Myanmar, Thabyay Radio, Radio Myanmar (English language) and 17 ethnic channels.

There are 258 MRTV retransmission stations, 85 expansion stations with FM Radio and 153 stations of DVB T2 under the digital system across the nation.
