SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.
On 9 February, Mon State Forest Department led an inspection team and seized 1.8234 tonnes of illegal teak worth K547,020 in Kyaikto Township of Thaton District.
On 10 February, the Customs Department and relevant officials of the Yaypu checkpoint confiscated K6,665,000 worth of products – undocumented commodities (K2,665,000) from unregistered Toyota Isis worth K4,000,000 in their patrol.
Similarly, the Bago Region Customs Department and a combined team conducted a surprise check between Waw Township and Shwe Thanlwin Tollgate and seized K2,899,600 worth of foodstuffs and juice on the same day.
On 11 February, Bago Region Forest Department also seized 7.6096 tonnes of various illegal timber in the forest reserves of Bago, Toungoo and Thayawady districts.
Then, the combined inspection team consisting of the officials of Mayanchaung inspection camp, Customs Department and department concerned seized K19,300,000 worth of illegal materials—one unregistered Honda Airwave Station Wagon worth K18,000,000 and 100 cartons of juice worth K1,300,000 from that car on the same day. Moreover, the combined inspection team of the Sagaing Region conducted a patrol and seized K2,400,000 worth of 200 bags of Indian flour.
Similarly, the combined team with Sagaing Region Police Force seized 597.50 grammes (still estimating the prices) of raw jade.
Thus, a total of 12 arrests (estimated value of K33,007,960) were made on 9, 10 and 11 February and the officials took action under the Forest Law, Customs Law and Myanmar Gems Law, stated the committee.
