A woman extradited from Thailand was sentenced to 10 years in prison for human trafficking, according to the authorities.

Than Zaw Thein and Ma Thazin Hlaing from Thanlyin Township, Yangon Region, Than Zaw Oo from Hlinethaya Township and Daw Wa Toke (alias) Win San from Ye Township, Mon State persuaded Mg …, 22-yearold and U …, 42-year-old from Thanlyin Township, Yangon Region to work as shrimp sorters in Myeik, claiming that they would earn K300,000 per month but they were sent to a fishing factory in Thailand and their wages were rigged.

The case was filed in the southern district court under Section 28 (b)/32 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Law at Thanlyin Myoma Police Station (Pa) 246/2017.

Daw Wa Toke (B) Win San, a fugitive fleeing to Thailand, was arrested and extradited from Thailand after being asked for help at a joint anti-trafficking meeting on the Myanmar-Thailand border.

On 9 February, defendant Daw Wa Toke (alias) Win San was sentenced to 10 years in prison under Section 28 (b)/32 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Law.
