UNDER the supervision of the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.

Acting on a tip-off, a combined team inspected on Sittway-An Road, near Mae Latt Maung village, An Township, Rakhine State on 6 January and confiscated 4.27 tonnes of illegal Thayet teak lumbers from two vehicles.

On 8 January, another combined team checked at an import checkpoint in Yepu permanent checkpoint, Shan State and found 195 boxes of two illegal foodstuffs on an 8J- 8801 vehicle worth an estimated amount of K4,000,000.

Similarly, the combined team led by the Bago Region Forest Department under the supervision of the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee inspected the forest reserve in Thayawady and Bago districts and found 59 tonnes of illegal forest production including 24 tonnes of teak, six tonnes of hardwood and 29 tonnes of other wood.

Thus, the team seized 4.27 tonnes of teak in Rakhine State on 6 January, estimated worth K4,000,000 at Yepu permanent checkpoint and about 59 tonnes of timber in the Bago Region yesterday.

The action is being taken in accordance with departmental procedures, the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee stated.
