Bangladeshi government hosted the 4th Myanmar-Bangladesh Director-General Level Meeting on Narcotics Drug Control via videoconferencing yesterday morning.
Myanmar delegation led by Police Brigadier-General Win Naing (Joint Secretary of Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control and Commander of Drug Enforcement Division) and Bangladeshi delegation led by Mr Muhammed Ahsanul Jabber (Director-General of the Department of Narcotics Control) participated in the virtual meeting.
During the meeting, Police Brigadier-General Win Naing said that the narcotics drug problem is a global problem and many nations are fighting it in various ways. He added that with the advancement of technology, the technological transformations of drug gangs had become a significant challenge.

He said that opium poppy cultivation and heroin production are major problems in the region. At present, drug seizures show that the manufacture of synthetic drugs and trades of precursor chemicals are on the rise.

Information exchange and effective cooperation between border guard police of the two nations are essential to prevent drug trafficking along the border, said Police Brigadier-General Win Naing, who also urged the two countries to promote cooperation in hunting fugitives.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged information about drug traffickers’ methods and other relevant information.

The two sides also discussed ways to prevent maritime drug trafficking along the Bay of Bengal and highlighted the need to hold meetings of lower-level anti-drug officers of the two nations. The meeting also selected the location to hold the 5th Myanmar-Bangladesh Director-General Level Meeting.
