THE Ministry of Union Government Office and the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement organized a virtual workshop on resettlement of internally displaced persons and closure of IDPs camps, on 3 and 4 December.
Prof. Walter Kalin, Representative of the Secretary-General on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons, who assisted drawing up of National-Level Strategy, led the virtual discussion.
The meeting discussed matters relating to resettlement and closure of IDPs camps in line with UN guidelines, long-term programmes of physical security, social security and law protecting in restoring IDPs, and drawing up of national-level strategy for closure of IDPs camps.
They also detailed about experiences of the closure of IDPs camps in Sudan and Somalia, monitoring and reviewing the implementing tasks, and implementation of Myanmar’s strategy and policies.
Attendees at the meeting, being divided into three groups, discussed the difficulties, challenges, good habits, experiences, and future tasks relating to the implementation of the national-level strategy on resettlement and closure of IDPs camps.
The Director-General of the General Administration Department and District Administrators from the GAD, the Ministry of Union Government Office and officials from the Disaster Management Department and Rehabilitation Department took part in the meeting.
