The Ministry of Health and Sports organized a meeting on effective COVID-19 treatment and a possible decline in the death toll via videoconferencing yesterday. During the meeting, the Union Minister Dr Myint Htwe said Myanmar reports 1,645 confirmed cases out of every one million people and ranks at 143 out of 230 world countries according to the statement of WHO on 29 November 2020. Moreover, there are 35 deaths in one million people, and so it also ranks at 132 out of 230 countries. The death rate is 1,918 and ranks at 57 among 230 world countries regardless of population.
The Union Minister also discussed more effective treatment to reduce the death rate, sharing of experience in healthcare services among the relevant medics, exact lab results, efforts of social welfare teams and donors, cooperation works with Public Health Department in COVID-19 treatment, prevention and control sectors, educating programmes for early diagnosis for COVID-19, conducting facemask campaigns across the nation, medical supplies to the COVID-19 treatment centre, hospitals and ICU.
He continued to say the high death rate due to poor health knowledge regarding with the signs and symptoms of COVID-19 and underlying diseases, the death cases of COVID-19 suspects after shortly arriving at the hospitals in the second wave of COVID-19, permission to allow one family member for the COVID-19 patient with disabilities, sharing of COVID-19 health guidelines in line with the findings to the hospitals via internet or E-mail, weekly discussion with the medics for treatment sector, efforts of ministry to fulfil the needs of the healthcare services and proposal to National-Level Central Committee on COVID-19 Prevention, Control and Treatment Centre.
Then, Prof Dr Zaw Wai Soe, Rector of University of Medicine (1) presented the better treatment for the patients before they arrive at the hospitals while other medics briefed the volunteers inside the ward system, SPO2 on exertion, challenges in treatment sectors and other COVID-19 related matters. The Union Minister coordinated the discussion and concluded the meeting after appreciating the efforts of doctors, nurses and other volunteers in the fight against COVID-19 and emphasized on plans to conduct a separate meeting with the Professors and Specialists, research on mental and physical supports for healthcare workers.
The Union Minister then urged the officials to keep carrying out the HIV/AIDS prevention programmes and other healthcare programmes amid COVID-19 pandemic.
