Discussions are underway with the Russian Federation to establish a power control system using Russian technology to manage the transmission and distribution of electricity across Myanmar, according to the Ministry of Electricity and Energy.

The discussion took place in Russia during a meeting between the Union Minister for Electricity and Energy and the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Power System Operator.

In Russia, electricity is generated from various energy sources and used in combination. The power generation mix is adjusted to meet hourly demand and is calculated to provide electricity at the lowest cost to consumers. Power is transmitted and distributed using a digital control system, which operates in real time to ensure a reliable and stable power supply.

Myanmar will also work to adopt the most appropriate power generation mix based on the types of energy resources available in the country. By reducing transmission losses in power generation and distribution, more electricity can be delivered, and consumers will be able to pay less. Discussions were held to obtain technical assistance from the Russian Federation to develop such a power control system, and the Russian Federation will also provide support by inviting technicians and professionals from Myanmar for study and training.
