A coordination meeting was held in Minbu Township, Magway Region, yesterday, to open heat relief shelters after the area recorded a high temperature of 43°C, ranking among the world’s hottest locations.

Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi, Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Soe Win, regional ministers, departmental officials and town elders attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the officials of the Minbu Township heat relief shelters opening supervisory committee reported on the establishment of centres at Pyinnya Alinn Yaung Private School and Sasana Beikman (downstairs), and Union ministers coordinated the discussion and made proper instructions.
Union ministers handed over K30 million and oral rehydration salts and juice worth K9,080,000 provided by the Acting President, and other materials provided by the ministries to the relevant officials.
Union ministers then inspected the Pyinnya Alinn Yaung Private High School, Aung Thukha Monastery, Mogok Vipassana Dhamma Yeiktha and Sasana Beikman in Minbu Township to establish the heat relief centres.

They proceeded to the Sagu Township People’s Hospital and inspected the preparations to treat the emergency cases due to heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Union Minister Dr Soe Win and the party visited the cooling centres in Magyikan village in Magway Township established by the ministry, and cordially greeted the locals, and presented cash assistance, drinking water and juice.

The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement opened four heat relief centres in Magway, Chauk, Yenangyaung and Natmauk townships starting from 16 March.
