The first-day event of the first regular session of the Third Pyithu Hluttaw commenced at the convention hall of the Pyithu Hluttaw at the Hluttaw Complex in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.

The Hluttaw session was attended by elected Pyithu Hluttaw Representatives from Regions and States and Defence Services Personnel Representatives of the Pyithu Hluttaw.

The Hluttaw representatives elected a meeting chair who will supervise the election of the Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker and Deputy Speaker. They elected Dr Nanda Kyaw Swa from the Dagon Constituency between two nominated candidates for the post as the Pyithu Hluttaw meeting chair through secret voting.

The meeting chair, Dr Nanda Kyaw Swa, took affirmations in front of the Pyithu Hluttaw, signed the form of affirmation and extended greetings.

The meeting chair announced that, of the 373 Pyithu Hluttaw representatives who were entitled to attend the First Regular Session of the Third Pyithu Hluttaw, all representatives were present. Therefore, the First Regular Session of the Third Pyithu Hluttaw was duly convened with 100 per cent attendance, and the meeting was declared open.
Pyithu Hluttaw representatives took affirmations in front of the meeting chair and signed the form of affirmation.

During the election of the Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw, Dr Pwint San from the Yaksawk Constituency nominated U Khin Yi from the Zeyathiri Constituency as the sole candidate for the position of Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw, and U Than Tun from the Pathein Constituency seconded the nomination. Accordingly, in accordance with Rule 11 of the Pyithu Hluttaw Rules (2013), the meeting chair announced that U Khin Yi from the Zeyathiri Constituency had been elected as Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw.

In electing the Deputy Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw, U Thet Pon from the Sagaing Constituency nominated U Maung Maung Ohn from the Tatkon Constituency as a sole candidate for the Deputy Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw while U Hla Swe from the Pobbathiri Constituency seconded the nomination. So, the meeting chair announced that U Maung Maung Ohn from the Tatkon Constituency had been elected as Deputy Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw in line with Rule 13 of the Pyithu Hluttaw Rules (2013).

Speaker U Khin Yi and Deputy Speaker U Maung Maung Ohn took affirmations in front of the meeting chair and signed the form of affirmations.

The meeting chair handed over responsibilities to Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw U Khin Yi in accord with Rule 15 of the Pyithu Hluttaw Rules (2013).

The first day of the first regular session of the Third Pyithu Hluttaw was adjourned, and the date and time for the second day session will be announced.
