Under the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, relevant departments are taking effective action in accordance with the law to prevent and suppress illegal trade across the country.

A combined inspection team under the management of the Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force conducted inspections on 10 and 15 February. The team seized illegal teak and other timbers worth K9.676 million in Lewe, Tatkon and Ottarathiri townships. The authorities took action under the Forest Law.

In Bago and Mandalay Region, the joint on-duty teams conducted the inspections on 10, 13 and 16 February and confiscated six unregistered motorbikes valued at K1.38 million in Pyay, Nyaunglebin and Bago districts, illegal teak, hardwoods and other timbers valued at K29.783 million in Okpo, Yedashe, Gyobingauk, Pyu and Bago townships, nine unregistered vehicles valued at K114.5 million in Myitnge, Amarapura, Patheingyi, Mahaaungmyay, Chanmyathazi and Thazi townships. The action was taken under the Forest Law and the Export and Import Law.

Moreover, the inspections were conducted on 17 and 18 February and captured three unregistered vehicles worth K44 million in Mudon, Kyaikto and Mawlamyine, three trucks (approximately K114 million) carrying foodstuffs and electronics valued at K202.55 million without official documents in Bilin Township and foodstuffs valued at K10.368 million that were piled up at the railway station in Theinzayet. The action was carried out under the Export/Import Law.

On 10, 13, 15, 16, 17 and 18 February, a total of 41 cases were seized nationwide, with a combined estimated value of K526.258 million.
