THERE have been 73,322 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Myanmar up to 8:10 pm on 18-11-2020. Among the patients taken to the hospitals, 75 per cent of them have been discharged, while the death toll reached 1,650.

As the winter season has set in Myanmar at present and this climate is favourable to the spread of COVID-19. Moreover, the disease could rapidly spread if people make tours in the upcoming open season and the long holiday period.

Moreover, the Ministry of Health and Sports is increasing surveillance and control measures against a possible higher number of positive cases due to the public gatherings before and after the 2020 General Election on 8 November. The region and state governments are also conducting ‘Mask and Face Shield Campaign’ with the distribution of masks, face shields and pamphlets during the awareness campaigns.

Therefore, people are advised not to make unnecessary tours and public gatherings, while following the directives of the Ministry of Health and Sports and staying at home to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Myanmar.
