A paper reading session titled “Sustainable Development Goals to Transform Peaceful and Prosperous Myanmar” to mark the Centenary of Yangon University was held at the university’s research centre via videoconferencing yesterday.

Union Minister Dr Myo Thein Gyi said the Yangon University is the heart of all national people living in the union and is recognized as the mother of all universities in Myanmar.

He expressed words of thanks to the Chair of Rectors Committee Dr Zaw Wai Soe, Rector of Yangon University Dr Phoe Kaung and other officials for holding the paper reading ceremony to mark 100th anniversary of the Yangon University including 76 faculty members who read their research papers.

The Union Minister also talked about the SD index of Myanmar which was 44.5 in 2016 and 64.6 in 2020 according to the Sustainable Development Report, plans to promote the SD index and to enhance internationalization in higher education.

He then appreciated the participation of teachers in the paper reading session as it can exchange the views to promote the businesses in society and can link the students with the real worksite for their practical and lecture sectors.

He also said the natural resources are limited resources while learning is infinite resources or infinite treasures. As the saying goes, there is no friend like learning, and so the real friend for all national brethren is learning, and then he extended best wishes for the eternal existence of the university.

The research conference for the centenary of Yangon University will be held for two days on 19 and 20 November, and a total of 76 teachers and paper researchers will read 76 papers.
