The ceremony for the 78th Anniversary of Kachin State Day was organized on the lawn in front of the Kachin State government office yesterday.

At the event, Union Minister for Ministry 1 of the President’s Office U Tin Aung San first read out the message sent by Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and State Security and Peace Commission Chairman Senior General Thadoe Maha Thray Sithu Thadoe Thiri Thudhamma Min Aung Hlaing to the 78th Kachin State Day celebration.

State Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan remarked, and Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn donated 30 MRTV DTH receivers and 20 DVB T2 set-top boxes for the state government and 30 MRTV DTH receivers and 20 DVB T2 set-top boxes for families of the Northern Command.

Union Minister U Tin Aung San and the party had a documentary photo taken together with the attendees, including governmental officials, PCG members, the Myanmar-Kachin Cultural Federation, families of those who signed at the Panglong Conference ethnic literature and cultural associations and so on.

After the ceremonial procedures, the Union Minister and party, the State Chief Minister and his wife, the Commander, state ministers and their wives, departmental officials, PCG, representatives of six Kachin ethnic groups and five Shan ethnic groups, and the representatives of Myanmar, Rakhine, Kayin and Chin ethnic literature and culture associations and town elders joined the Manaw dance under the leading of Nau Shawng.

The Union minister and party then observed the booths, including MSMEs, local farming products, food, costumes, traditional medicines, commodities, amber and finished gems.

They also attended the honorary certificate, prizes and award-giving ceremony to the outstanding individuals and organizations for their efforts in state development measures and sector-wise activities at the township stadium.

The state chief minister remarked, and the state security and border affairs minister explained the awarding event.

Union Minister U Tin Aung San and party conferred honorary certificates and prizes on the outstanding ones, and awarded the winners in high and middle education levels essay competitions and poem contests.

He also joined the dinner event for the 78th Kachin State Day on the same evening.

During the dinner event, they had dinner, enjoyed the traditional dance and songs of Kachin cultural dance troupes, and presented cash prizes to the dance troupes.

Myanmar gained independence on 4 January 1948, and six days later, on 10 January, the country’s then first President Sao Shwe Thaik personally attended and convened the Kachin State Council Conference at the Sitapu Manaw Ground in Myitkyina. At the conference, the Kachin State government was formed, and the date on which it was established was designated as Kachin State Day and has been commemorated annually. This year marks the 78th anniversary.
