Senior General Min Aung Hlaing highlighted that regarding agricultural and livestock activities, the Ayeyawady Region needs to further develop its cultivation of fragrant Pawsan rice to increase production and enable greater export opportunities abroad.

Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing yesterday afternoon met departmental officials and town elders at the hall in Maubin of Ayeyawady Region to talk about regional development undertakings.

In his speech, the Senior General said that the Maubin area is located in an important part of the Ayeyawady Region, and plans to open the University of Agriculture and Livestock Breeding (Maubin) have been underway since around 2021.

He noted that the government has been continuously implementing initiatives to improve education and has also worked on upgrading universities.

He stressed that as country’s economy is primarily based on agriculture and livestock, there is a great need for agricultural and livestock science professionals as human resources.

The Senior General underscored that efforts are ongoing to produce skilled human resources, which include establishing new polytechnic universities and further expanding the number of agriculture and livestock breeding universities.

Regarding agricultural and livestock activities, he continued that the Ayeyawady Region needs to further develop its cultivation of fragrant Pawsan rice to increase production and enable greater export opportunities abroad.

He pointed out that if lowland coffee (Robusta variety) is cultivated some 20,000 acres of horticultural farms in Maubin Township, it would generate significant benefits and increase the potential for exports abroad.

He underlined that fish farming activities in the Ayeyawady Region are being successfully carried out. Similarly, efforts should be made to further develop and expand poultry, pig, cattle, and duck farming activities.

The Senior General unveiled that consideration will be given to providing a football field needed for the township, and efforts will also be made to support the development and improvement of universities in Maubin.

He remarked that preparations are being made to ensure free and fair elections and are also verifying that the elected representatives comply with the law. Primarily, voters are encouraged to choose candidates who act in the interest of the nation and the region, can responsibly safeguard Our Three Main National Causes, and possess knowledge of politics, the economy, and national defence.

The Maubin District Administrator reported to the Senior General on facts about the region, preparations to hold the election, agriculture and livestock activities, efforts to meet the target production, fish farming process, disbursement of loans from the State economic promotion fund, supply of electricity, development of education sector, one region one product (OROP) initiatives, MSME production, and needs to upgrade the township stadium.

Town elders requested the Senior General to increase disbursement of loans to local farmers, need of paddy dryers, requirement of electricity for livestock breeding, development of livestock industry and needs of more plots, cultivation of bamboo plants on the dykes of fish farms, and cultivation of coconuts.

With regard to the reports, the Union ministers and the Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister discussed plans to import paddy dryers for farmers, submission for more plots of livestock industry, designation of the rice and paddy export zone, and production of Pawsan paddy.

The Senior General viewed round domestic products, agricultural machinery, livestock products, and foodstuffs displayed at the MSME product show and market fair of Maubin District and fulfilled the needs of officials.

Also, present at the meeting were Commission Secretary and Joint Executive Chief General Ye Win Oo, Union ministers, Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister U Tin Maung Win, senior Tatmadaw officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the commander of South-West Command, departmental officials and MSME businesspersons.
