Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn attended the opening ceremony of the 55th Tatkon Township Maha Kathina Festival held at the entrance to Sasana Beikman in Tatkon Township yesterday.
After the ceremonial procedures of the opening event, the Union minister and party observed the preparations of the offerings donated by government departments, schools, wards, and private donors. The Maha Kathina Festival will continue from 31 October to 4 November, featuring donation processions, traditional music, and dance.
On 6 November, the main donation ceremony will take place at Aung San Hall, and the offerings will be distributed to 49 monasteries in Tatkon Township. In the evening, five large hot-air balloons and 500 small ones will be released in celebration.
From 1 to 3 November, a traditional cart race will be held, with 28 carts, and the prizes are K5 million for first place, K4 million for second, K3 million for third, K1 million for the special prize and K500,000 for other candidates.
During the festival period from 2 to 4 November, there will be entertainment programmes of artistes.
At noon, the Union minister visited Myanma Radio and Television (MRTV) to inspect preparations for political party campaign recordings for the 2025 multiparty democratic general election. He urged staff to follow proper procedures and maintain quality production.
He inspected ongoing earthquake repair works at the MRTV head office carried out by Shwe Taung Construction, and instructed for timely completion to meet standards.
He visited the MRTV staff housing, observed the meal arrangements, and cordially met with the staff.
