A delegation led by Union Minister for Energy U Ko Ko Lwin, attending the eighth Russian Energy Week International Forum (REW) in Moscow, the Russian Federation, met on 17 October with the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, Mr Sergey Tsivilyov. The meeting was also attended by the heads of the Russian state-owned energy companies INTER RAO Export and JSC RosGeo.
During the meeting, they exchanged views on various issues, including energy sector cooperation between Myanmar and Russia, collaboration in oil and gas technologies, conducting practical training courses to develop human resources in geophysics and petroleum engineering, electricity generation from coal, cooperation to increase oil and gas production, and enhancing the capacity of natural gas-fired turbines.
The Myanmar delegation then signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Energy of Myanmar and JSC RosGeo, a state-owned company of the Russian Federation, to implement a pilot project using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to extract natural gas from thin sands at five wells in the Aphyauk Natural Gas Field, in the presence of the energy ministers of both countries. This is the first oil and gas production enhancement project in Myanmar to utilize AI technology, and it will be launched in the Aphyauk field, which has strong potential for natural gas extraction.
Afterwards, the Myanmar delegation met a team led by Mr Sergey Ratkov, CEO of JSC RosGeo, a state-owned company of the Russian Federation, to discuss the use of AI and GeoAudit technologies for the systematic management of underground resources, including oil and gas, and for identifying potential areas. They also exchanged views on technical matters, such as creating geological maps using modern technology, conducting oil exploration activities, and providing practical training programmes to develop human resources in geology and geophysics. The delegation also toured the Russian State Geological Museum, operated by JSC RosGeo.
The Myanmar delegation then met a team led by the General Director of Gazprom International Limited, a state-owned company of the Russian Federation, to discuss engineering matters related to the construction of an oil refinery at the Dawei Deep-Sea Port, securing the necessary crude oil, and the potential for distributing and selling the produced oil products both domestically and to regional countries. They also discussed upgrading oil and natural gas pipelines and sending relevant experts to conduct feasibility studies.
