A total of 318 million bamboo poles and 77 million rattan poles can be extracted annually from natural forests for the industry, and the establishment of private bamboo farms are permitted, U Khin Maung Yi, Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, said at the MSME Development meeting among the Forest Department, the Myanma Timber Enterprise and entrepreneurs held at the ministry office in Botahtaung Township in Yangon on 5 September.
The Union minister emphasized that the use of technology to increase the production and export of finished products will provide more employment opportunities and contribute to the country’s economic development. While the private sector is important for the development of the bamboo industry, it needs coordination and cooperation between departments and entrepreneurs to facilitate raw material procurement, local and foreign market access and export.
The Union minister visited No 1, No 2 and No 3 Furniture Factories in Thanlyin Township, inspected the manufacturing process of various furniture and value-added timbers, and instructed responsible officials to make efforts to meet the target export earnings.
