Union Minister for Border Affairs and for Ethnic Affairs Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, accompanied by Taninthayi Region Chief Minister U Myat Ko, Deputy Minister for Ethnic Affairs U Zaw Aye Maung, and relevant officials, attended the traditional Kayin white thread-tying ceremony at Shwewei Thiri futsal court in Dawei, Taninthayi Region, yesterday.

The event began with Kayin’s national song, and the Union minister and party played the traditional frog drum and buffalo horns. The Kayin literature and culture subcommittee of Dawei University performed traditional dance.

In his remark, the Union minister highlighted the intention and significance of the thread-tying ceremony, the importance of preserving the tradition, and extended wishes to the Kayin people and all ethnic people.

The regional chief minister also remarked, and the Rammazu don dance troupe performed the traditional dance.

The elderly and young Kayin people offered their blessings to the attendees and tied the white-thread. They were also served with traditional Kayin food and dance at the event.

At noon, the Union minister and party met officials of the Taninthayi Region Development Supervisory Office, and instructed the need to place special focus on construction processes as the region receives heavy rainfalls, to meet the standards in work processes, ensure the welfare of staff and recruitment.

After remarking, the Union minister presented cash prizes to the staff of the Taninthayi Region Development Supervisory Office, and to the region head office and Technical School for Nationalities Youth from Border Areas (Dawei).

The Union minister and party observed the teaching aids displayed at the hall.
