Dr Than Soe, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, received Ms Noriko Takagi, Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Myanmar, at the Ministry’s reception hall yesterday.

During the meeting, both sides discussed the formation of the Buildings Restoration, Utilization, and New Buildings Construction Supervision Committee to inspect earthquake-affected buildings, assess damage levels, determine resettlement status, identify repair and demolition needs, UNHCR’s assistance to earthquake victims, and the prompt signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement and UNHCR.

The meeting was attended by the Director-General of the Disaster Management Department, Deputy Permanent Secretary and officials, as well as representatives from the UNHCR office.
