KNPP, KNDF, and PDF terrorists took control of the entire Moebye, a key junction along the Pinlaung-Pekhon-Moebye-Loikaw route, in an attempt to undermine the government’s administrative mechanisms and disrupt regional peace and stability. The Tatmadaw launched a phased counter-terrorism operation, repelled the attack, and recaptured Moebye on 6 July.

After regaining control of Moebye, the Tatmadaw continued counter-terrorism operations from 7 July to secure the remaining 4.5 km of road between Moebye and Loikaw, as well as the villages of Wari Kaw Khu and Sawngkan(Kayah), which lie along this route. These operations resulted in four major battles, and by the afternoon of 11 July, the entire 4.5-kilometre stretch had been fully cleared.

Between 7 and 11 July, three terrorists were killed, and 15 small arms, along with communication equipment, were seized. Some members of the security forces were killed or sustained minor injuries during the engagements.

With the reopening of the Pinlaung-Pekhon-Moebye-Loikaw road, residents of Loikaw can now travel to Hopong, Taunggyi, and Aungban. Through Kalaw Township, access to other parts of the region is also restored, enabling smoother and faster flow of goods into and out of Loikaw. This development will ease the hardships faced by residents of Loikaw Township and other conflict-affected areas, especially in terms of shortages and high prices of basic food and consumer goods.
