ACCORDING to U Bo Thin, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Shwedagon Pagoda, more than 30,000 international tourists visited the Pagoda between January and May 2025.
Among the foreign visitors, the majority came from Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.
“In January alone, over 8,000 foreign visitors came to the pagoda. More than 7,000 came in February and March, over 4,000 in April, and more than 5,000 in May – totalling over 30,000 within five months. As for local pilgrims, more than three million visited the pagoda during the same five-month period,” said U Bo Thin.
Currently, due to the increasing number of pilgrims, the Shwedagon Pagoda has extended its opening hours to accommodate visitors, operating daily from 4:00 am to 10:00 pm starting from 21 June 2024.
