Families of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy, and Air) and military commands hold monsoon tree-growing ceremonies yearly since 2011 with the aim of conserving the natural environment, affecting climatic conditions, sustaining shade in society and supporting the State economy on one hand.

Yesterday, families of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy, and Air) held the first monsoon tree-growing ceremony for 2025 near the Yezin Dam in Zeyathiri Township of Nay Pyi Taw, led by Chairman of the State Administration Council, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

Speaking on the occasion, the Senior General said that as the families of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy, and Air) have planted trees around the Yezin Dam area 41 times since 2011, it is necessary to nurture these trees to thrive.

He unveiled that Myanmar is covered with 42.6 per cent of forest coverage at present, so the government places more emphasis on environmental conservation.

He noted that everybody knows that if there are watershed forests, water conservation efforts can be carried out more effectively.

Over the past year, the Senior General continued to say that Myanmar has bitterly experienced flooding caused by storms and heavy rains.

Similarly, he recounted that Cyclone Mocha struck Rakhine State, resulting in extensive damage and losses.

He pointed out that environmental degradation has occurred not only due to human activities but also as a consequence of natural forces, particularly the impacts of climate change.

The Senior General underlined that it can also be more fully learned and understood about environmental changes and the need for conservation through reading literature.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and his wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla planted a teak tree while SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win and his wife Daw Than Than Nwe, Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Kyaw Swa Lin and his wife, the Commander-in-Chief (Navy) and his wife, the Commander-in-Chief (Air) and his wife, senior Tatmadaw officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and their wives, Tatmadaw members and their families planted saplings in designated places.

The Senior General, his wife and the party viewed the participation of Tatmadaw members and families in the tree-growing activities.

At the ceremony, families of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy, and Air) cultivated 2,400 saplings, including 900 teak saplings, 600 ironwood saplings, 300 gum-kino saplings and 600 Mahogany saplings.

As part of conserving the natural environment and ecosystem around the Yezin Dam, those families held 42 tree-growing ceremonies from 2011 to date for the cultivation of 203,526 precious trees, perennial crops and shade and windbreaks.

Yesterday, military commands and families of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy, and Air) planted 152,844 saplings at the monsoon tree-growing activities.
