The ceremony to mark World No Tobacco Day 2025 was held at 9:30 am yesterday at Office 4 of the Ministry of Health in Nay Pyi Taw.
During the event, Deputy Minister for Health Dr Aye Tun said the 2025 global theme was “Unmasking the appeal; Exposing industry tactics on tobacco and nicotine products.” He highlighted that advertising, promoting, and supporting the use of tobacco and related products is prohibited under Myanmar’s tobacco control law.
He also explained that the order titled “Packaging of tobacco and nicotine products in compliance with standardized requirements and printing of health warning images and texts” had come into effect on 31 December 2024, and authorities have been taking measures to ensure enforcement. According to the STEPs Survey Myanmar 2024 on non-communicable disease risk factors, tobacco use in Myanmar has declined compared to the 2014 survey, which is seen as encouraging. However, he noted a concerning rise in the use of electronic nicotine delivery systems like e-cigarettes and said stricter control measures are necessary.
He reaffirmed that under the guidance of the State Administration Council, the Ministry of Health continues efforts to build a resilient health system that promotes the well-being of the entire population. After the ceremony, attendees visited a mini exhibition to mark World No Tobacco Day 2025.
