The UMS Myitkyina vessel of the Tatmadaw (Navy) arrived at the Thilawa (MITT) Port at 10 am on 23 May, carrying 225 tonnes of cement (4,500 50-kilogramme bags) donated by the Government of India to assist with the reconstruction efforts following the recent earthquake in Myanmar.

A formal handover ceremony for the 225 tonnes of cement was held at Thilawa Port later in the afternoon. During the event, Mr Abhay Thakur, Ambassador of India to Myanmar, delivered a speech explaining the donation of the cement bags.

The donation was accepted by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein. Present at the ceremony were regional government ministers, officials from the Strategic Studies and Training Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Department of Disaster Management under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, as well as the Chairpersons and members of the Thanlyin District Administration Body and the Kyauktan Township Administration Body.

Following the handover, Chief Minister U Soe Thein expressed his gratitude. Then, the donated cement was loaded onto cargo trucks under the supervision of the Yangon Region government and transported to areas affected by the earthquake.
