Under the guidance of the Ministry of Health, a mass casualty scenario drill was conducted at Yangon General Hospital on the afternoon of 23 May. The event was attended by hospital administrators, professors and heads of various departments, specialists, assistant doctors, head nurses, laboratory and radiology staff, trainees from Yangon Nursing School, junior staff, as well as representatives from the Latha Township Administration Body, Police Force, and Fire Services Department.

The purpose of the exercise was to enhance preparedness and minimize damage during natural disasters through effective planning. During the drill, approximately 40 simulated patients were brought to the emergency department to mimic an emergency scenario.

The Emergency Management Team was immediately established under the “Mass Casualty Incident Management Plan (2025).” This team oversaw the creation of six specialized working groups: the Emergency Patient and Hospital Staff Safety Team, the Medical and Support Team, the Emergency Patient Supply Team, the Coordination Team, the Information and Communication Team, and the Social Communication Team.

Additionally, six auxiliary teams were promptly formed: the Radiology Department Team, the Pathology Department Team, the Forensic Medicine Team, the Blood Donation Team, the Blood Distribution Team, and the Medicine Storage Team.

The relevant teams collaborated efficiently, practising emergency patient management procedures. A debriefing session was held afterwards at the Training Centre to evaluate and refine the process.
