Tatmadaw members, Myanmar Police Force members, foreign rescue squads and volunteers are making concerted efforts in rescue and rehabilitation operations in the Mandalay earthquake-affected areas.
Lt-Gen Thet Pon from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) yesterday inspected the clearing of debris at damaged and collapsed buildings, including religious edifices, affected by the Mandalay earthquake in Sagaing and on Sagaing Hill.
He attended the ceremony to provide K21.365 million for rice and construction materials and for families of those who lost their lives and sustained injuries in the earthquake by the Department of Disaster Management, kitchen utensils by AHA Centre and personal goods by China at the 700th Anniversary Gymnasium in Sagaing. He also observed the sale of construction materials for the earthquake-affected people.
At Mandalay University, Lt-Gen Myo Moe Aung from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) inspected the removal of debris at damaged buildings and presented foodstuffs to teachers. He visited the place of Mingala Market at the corner of 73rd and 30th streets in Chanayethazan Township and inspected the sale of construction materials at fair prices to the earthquake-affected people.
Lt-Gen Soe Tint Naing from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) looked into the clearing of debris at collapsed religious buildings and the systematic handover of relic objects to officials in Pyigyidagun Township. He viewed the removal of damaged parts at the No 2 Basic Education High School in Amarapura Township and met with students and teachers, preparing for the matriculation examination at the camp.
Lt-Gen Myo Thant Naing from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) viewed the repair of the tilted Kyaukthitta Pagoda and other religious buildings at Shwemuhtaw Pagoda in Kyaukse. He also oversaw the sale of construction materials for the quake-affected buildings in Singaing Township and the construction of modular houses for the relevant departments.
