The Agricultural Products Management Committee held coordination meeting via zoom application at the Ministry of Commerce yesterday afternoon.

During the meeting, Deputy Minister for Commerce U Aung Htoo, in his capacity as chairperson of APMC said the meeting was held to discuss purchasing of monsoon paddy in 2020 through tender system, plans to purchase paddy and rice, terms and conditions of tender system and agreements in purchasing paddy.

According to the Protection of the Farmer Rights and Enhancement of their Benefits Law, the Agricultural Products Management Committee sought K20 billion budget form the government to purchase paddy from the farmers at K520,000 for every 100 baskets and received approval of economy committee and also submitted to the Union Government, said Deputy Minister, adding that if the government grants K20 billion, the committee will advertise the tender invitation for paddy purchases at minimum basic prices on 12 and 14 October issues of Myanma Alinn newspaper.

The Deputy Minister also discussed plans to purchase monsoon paddy in 2020 drafted by tender regulatory and contract (bill) making team, terms and conditions of tender system, contract for importing paddy, further action plans to carry out in line with the plans and regulations after getting approval of the officials, conditions of warehouses in the respective regions and states and the rental fees for warehouse if there is not enough warehouses to store the paddy.

He also called on the respective paddy and rice purchasing supervisory committees of regions and states to carry out systematically in purchasing monsoon paddy in 2020 under tender system and to give suggestions regarding forthcoming difficulties. Then, the Permanent Secretary, the Directors-General, the Deputy Permanent Secretary, the Deputy Directors-General, the committee members and officials of department concerned coordinated the meeting.—
