EFFORTS to combat illegal trade, supervised by the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, are being made effectively in accordance with the law.
On 31 October, combined teams under the management of the Customs Department seized four kinds of industrial materials (estimated value of K182 million) without legal documents from five containers at the Asia World container checkpoint and one kind of industrial material (estimated value of over K130 million) which could not show the proper documents from three containers at Myanmar Industrial Port. Action was taken according to the Customs procedures.
Besides, on 1 November, a combined team under the management of Shan State Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force made inspections near Ywangan crossroad and confiscated twenty-two kinds of industrial materials, two kinds of consumer goods, one kind of foodstuff (estimated value of over K207 million) without official documents from three Hino Ranger trucks (estimated value of K120 million).
The action was taken in accordance with the Customs procedures.
On 2 and 3 November, a combined squad under the management of Sagaing Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force seized one unregistered Toyota Crown and one unregistered JAC truck (estimated value of K32 million) at the Yadanabon checkpoint.
Moreover, on 3 November, a combined team under the management of Bago Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force inspected 1.193 tonnes of illegal teak timber (estimated value of over K1 million) in the Bago District and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, on 31 October, 1, 2 and 3 November, there were 16 arrests with the value of illegal goods seized amounting to approximately K674.595 million, reported by the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee.
