THE Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Soe Win attended the 12th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management (AMMDM) and its related meetings held in Brunei from 23 to 25 October.

On 23 October, the Union Minister discussed the meeting-related matters with ASEAN Secretariat and joined the dinner hosted by Mr Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Admaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Minister for Home Affairs of Brunei, together with Deputy Prime Ministers and disaster management Ministers of ASEAN countries.

The Union Minister attended the first session of ceremony marking 2024 ASEAN Day and International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction yesterday morning and joined the 12th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management themed “Building Resilient ASEAN through Inclusive and Sustainable Disaster Recovery”.

During the meeting, the Union Minister highlighted the primary message of the meeting’s theme, “Building Resilient ASEAN through Inclusive and Sustainable Disaster Recovery”. He clarified the need to balance climate change and socio-economic development in ASEAN countries and create a resilient ASEAN community through the One ASEAN, One Response policy.

Then, the officials of the ASEAN Secretariat and AHA Centre explained the implementation of the ASEAN agreement on disaster management in 2024 and the utilization of the ASEAN disaster management and emergency relief fund.

Next, the Deputy Prime Ministers and Ministers of ASEAN visited the residence of the Crown Prince of Brunei and greeted Crown Prince Haji AL-Muhtadee Billah.
