State Administration Council Member Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Yar Pyae attended the opening ceremony of the 42nd ASEANPOL Conference held at MICC I in Nay Pyi Taw as an honorary guest yesterday.
The event was also attended by special guests such as INTERPOL Chair Mr Ahmed Naser AI-Raisi, Chiefs of Police and Senior Police Officers of ASEAN and their wives, delegates of Dialogue Partners – Russia, Australia, China, INTERPOL and ASEAN Secretary-General Office, Observers- Timor-Leste, ICRC and the UAE, diplomats of ASEAN countries and invitees.
Before the opening ceremony, the INTERPOL Chair and leaders of delegations met SAC Member Union Minister Lt-Gen Yar Pyae.
During the opening ceremony, the Chief of Myanmar Police Force made a greeting speech, inaugurated the programmes to mark the establishment of ASEANPOL, a video clip depicting activities of ASEANPOL conducted from 1981 to date was played, the special guest made remark, the honorary guest made opening speech and launched the 42nd ASEANPOL Conference.
They then posed for a documentary photo together and concluded the opening event.
Then, the First Plenary Meeting, Forum of Leaders of Delegation, Meeting of Leaders of Delegations and Dialogue Parties, Commission A, B, and C meetings were held.
The Commission A and B meetings discussed illicit drug trafficking, terrorism, arms smuggling, trafficking in person, wildlife crime, maritime fraud, commercial crimes, bank offences and credit card fraud, cybercrime, fraudulent travel documents and transnational fraud. The Commission C meeting discussed the database system (e-ADS), mutual support for criminal cases, training for ASEAN police forces and establishment of the ASEANPOL forensic science network.
The wives of guests visited the Uppatasanti Pagoda and National Museum in Nay Pyi Taw.
Myanmar became an ASEAN member in 1997, together with Laos, and a member of ASEANPOL in 1998. After two years of membership, Myanmar hosted the 20th ASEANPOL Conference in Yangon in 2020, and the 32nd ASEANPOL Conference in Nay Pyi Taw in 2012.
The 42nd ASEANPOL Conference’s theme is Strengthening Regional and Global Partnerships to Combat Transnational Crime. The ASEANPOL Conference was established on 23 October 1981, and the Myanmar Police Force presided over the conference for the first time in 2024 after 43 years of establishment. The 42nd ASEANPOL Conference will continue on 23 and 24 October.
