UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to curb illegal trade in accordance with the law continue effectively.

At the permanent checkpoint in Mayanchaung, an Isuzu Giga truck valued at K52 million was seized, along with K12 million worth of consumer goods lacking legal documentation on 18 September. The action was carried out as per Customs procedures. In Magway Region, inspection teams seized 240 gallons of illegal crude oil, an unregistered motorcycle, and 0.562 tonne of illegal timber, followed by legal procedures.

On 19 September, the task force in Mandalay Region stopped two vehicles at the Yadanabon Bridge checkpoint carrying K73.625 million worth of food products without proper documentation. Additionally, two Higer buses valued at K125 million were seized. Further, at the Kywetatson checkpoint, a vehicle carrying K25.552 million worth of industrial goods without legal documentation and a Toyota HiAce worth K48 million were confiscated. Another operation near the Myitnge Bridge led to the seizure of K70.001 million worth of industrial goods and two Isuzu Giga trucks valued at K116 million.

In Bago Region, inspection teams caught a truck transporting K4.5 million worth of industrial goods without documents and a Foton truck worth K30 million at the Bago checkpoint. Additionally, 9.141 tonnes of illegal teak and 0.950 tonne of hard wood (valued at K4.462 million), and an unregistered Toyota Alphard worth K12 million were also seized. The action was taken under the Forest Law.

In Shan State, inspections near Muse resulted in founding of K43.75 million worth of industrial goods stored along the roadside without customs clearance. The items were seized, and legal proceedings were underway.

On 18 and 19 September, 20 cases were recorded, amounting to an estimated value of K618.389 million, according to the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee.
