SUPERVISED by the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, legal action is being taken against illicit trading across the nation.

On 11 June, the on-duty teams managed by the Bago Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force seized 5.922 tonne of illegal teak, 0.390 tonne of illegal hardwood, and 7.128 tonnes of unlawful timber valued at K4.196 million in Bago and Toungoo districts. This action was taken under the Forest Law.

On the same day, combined teams confiscated 0.422 tonne of illegal teak worth K150,000 in Ingapu Township, and two vehicles (estimated value K80 million) carrying nine types of goods worth K18.47 million, including 240 Uniqlo men’s trousers without official documents, at the exit checkpoint of Yangon International Airport. Additionally, a Mitsubishi Fuso truck (worth approximately K32 million) heading to Yangon from Mongpyin was seized at the Ywathagyi Dry Port for carrying 4,500 kilogrammes of chainsaw blades not declared in the Import Declaration (ID). The action was taken under Customs procedures and the Forest Law.

During inspections on 12 June, combined teams impounded three unregistered vehicles (estimated value K18 million) and five unregistered motorbikes (estimated value K2 million) in Myitkyina Township, an unregistered Honda Fit (worth approximately K15 million) in Dekkhinathiri Township, and illegal teak weighing 12.457 tonnes and illegal timber weighing 33.709 tonnes valued at K8.338 million in Lewe Township. The action was taken under the Export and Import Law and the Forest Law.

On the same day, combined teams seized 9,550 visses of garlic from China valued at K46.814 million without official documents at the Yadanabon Bridge checkpoint in Sagaing Township and a Toyota light truck (estimated value of K18 million) carrying 1,260 gallons of illegal crude oil and a Kawa engine valued at K4.51 million near the Thayet-Aunglan River Bridge in Thayet Township. The action was conducted under the Export and Import Law and the Petroleum and Petroleum Products Law.

Therefore, 17 arrests (estimated value K262 million) were made on 11 and 12 June, according to the committee.
