PASSENGERS are keen to ride Electric Vehicle (EV) taxis and many drivers have also been looking for a way to drive an EV taxi.

“I drive both a petrol taxi and an EV taxi. Currently, EV taxi is in the spotlight. The majority of drivers are interested in it, as well as passengers. Because EVs are new cars, so passengers prefer to ride in. EV taxis are more safe and their equipment is better. And they are left-hand drive so it is convenient for passengers to get on and get off,” said Ko Aung Wai Lin from Happy EV Taxi Family.

At present, EV taxis have gained attentions from passengers and even there are demands for EV taxi only, he said. Drivers have been looking for rental EV taxi but there are just a few companies, so far, he said.

“Petrol cars have to wait in queue at filling stations and CNG cars also have faced the problem of unavailability of gas. But EV cars don’t need to queue up at stations for now, so it is still fine. I drive EV car rented from a company so it is very fast for charging at four stations in Thakin Mya Park, Yangon Airport, Dagon Ayeyar Highway Bus Terminal and Aung Mingalar Highway Bus Terminal. Charging lasts depending on type of car. It takes just about 40 minutes to charge my car. In my experience, it is safest if we don’t charge at home if possible, because even large charging cables at charging station become hot sometimes,” he said.

It is the best to charge EV cars at their charging stations rather than at home, he suggested.
