THE inspection team, led by U Kyaw Soe and Dr Than Myint, members of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission, inspected Thanlyin Police Lock-up, Court Detention Centre and Lumbini Home for the Aged in Thanlyin Township, Yangon Region, under Sections 43 and 44 of the Commission Law yesterday.

While inspecting the Thanlyin police lock-up, the MNHRC team viewed the conditions of detainees during the remand period, including whether any torture occurred during the investigation and whether there were opportunities to meet family members as well as provision of food and drinking water, the handling of sewage, and the overall cleanliness of the facilities.

The Lumbini Home for the Aged was also inspected under the MNHRC Law and procedures to ascertain whether residents were enjoying fundamental rights, including health services, appropriate food, purified drinking water, right to freedom of religion, adequate dormitories and arrangements for leisure.

MNHRC will send recommendations to the relevant departments for the necessary action based on the findings during their inspection.
