U Soe Han, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated in the ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting and Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone Commission (SEANWFZ Commission) which were held via video conference yesterday at 8:00 am from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nay Pyi Taw.

The ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting and Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone Commission (SEANWFZ Commission) were chaired by Mr Nguyen Quoc Dzung, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam as ASEAN Chair and attended by ASEAN Senior Officials and the Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN.

At the ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting, the Senior Officials discussed and exchanged views on matters pertaining to key deliverables of Viet Nam’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2020, follow up to the Special ASEAN Summits on COVID-19 and Special ASEAN plus Three Summit on COVID-19, applications of external partners to accede to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) and ASEAN’s external relations, relations between ASEAN and Sectoral Dialogue Partners/ Development Partners as well as preparations for the 53rd ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, Meeting of the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone(SEANWFZ) Commission, ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference (PMC) 10+1 Sessions with ASEAN’s Dialogue Partners, 21st ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, 10th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, 27th ASEAN Regional Forum, ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting Interface with ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights Representatives, Special Session of the ASEAN Coordinating Council Meeting on Sub-Regional Development, ASEAN Ministerial Dialogue on Strengthening Women’s role for Sustainable Peace and Security and the 37th ASEAN Summit and related Summits.

Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone Commission was held at 11:30 a.m on the same day. In the Meeting, the Senior Officials discussed and exchanged views on reviewing the implementation of the Plan of Action of the SEANWFZ Treaty, Memorandum on Activities relating to the Treaty on the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone to the 2020 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and Protocols to the SEANWFZ Treaty.

Director-General and officials from the ASEAN Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also attended the Meetings.
