EVEN before the monsoon season arrives, there are up to 20 patients with dengue fever at Kyaikto Hospital.

So far, 21 children have had medical treatment for dengue fever at the hospital, which is why parents need to be cautious about this disease if their children have a fever and thoroughly take a record of the date and time the child started having fever, the hospital warned.

“Monsoon hasn’t come yet. But, so far, 21 children have dengue fever, not counting others who have received treatment at other hospitals. Dengue fever is a life-threatening disease. There is a saying that anxiety about one’s own child is the most intense,” said the hospital on 7 May.

A virus carried by mosquitoes causes dengue fever, and it breaks out during the rainy season as the reproduction of larvae is the highest during this period. Dengue fever can happen at any age, and both genders, and the fatal rate is high for adults above 15 years old.

Therefore, people need to pay careful attention to the health department’s guidelines and disinfect water pots and barrels in advance in order to prevent mosquitoes from reproducing in the surrounding area, the hospital urged.
