THE Department of Disaster Management in Ayeyawady Region has made preparations for potential natural disasters during the upcoming rainy season.

According to U Min Thein, the region’s director of the department, there are 121 storm shelters across the region capable of accommodating over 60,000 people. Regular emergency drills are conducted to ensure readiness, and rescue and support equipment are readily available for swift distribution.

These storm shelters include various facilities such as schools, monasteries, Dhammayon (community halls for religious purposes), multi-purpose shelters, and cyclone shelters. U Min Thein highlighted that all shelters are strategically located along convenient transport routes, ensuring efficient access for residents.

District offices maintain a stock of 17 relief supplies, sufficient for 2,600 households, including lifejackets, rainproof tents, lifebuoys, ropes, and boats, for distribution in areas affected by natural disasters.
