The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement organized a virtual meeting with officials in Chin State on providing assistance for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Sami and Paletwa townships, Chin State yesterday.

Chin State Disaster Management Department’s Director reported on delivering assistance for IDP households under COVID-19 Economic Relief Plan (CERP), and MoSWRR Deputy Minister and Disaster Management Department’s Director-General coordinated the matters.

The Union Minister said the staff to abide by COVID-19 guidelines in visiting IDP camps for delivering assistance, and expressed thanks to them for fulfilling the ministry’s duties amid the difficulties including transportation.

Officials from Chin State Disaster Management Department and Matupi District General Administration Department provided a total of K32.48 million, K40,000 per household, and hand soap under CERP, for 821 households in four IDP camps in Sami Township, Rakhine State on 25 and 26 August.

Officials from Chin State Disaster Management Department, Paletwa Township General Administration Department and Chin State IDP Supervision Committee led by the IDP Supervision Committee’s Deputy Chairman Minister for Municipal Affairs, Electricity and Industry will visit and deliver a total of K44.52 million cash assistance for 1,113 households in 19 IDP camps in Paletwa Township starting from September first week.

As part of preparation for COVID-19, the ministry used K 35 million and constructed seven long houses to accommodate suspected IDP COVID-19 patients in Paletwan and Paletwa townships and Sein Sin Wa Village.

A total of K36 million was already allocated to build five long houses in Paletwa and Sami townships and Mi Zar Village.

In addition, the ministry already handed over K54.102 million from National Natural Disaster Management Fund to Chin State government to construct 163 houses in Sein Sin Wa Village and 107 houses in Mi Zar Village in Paletwa Township.
