Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement provided special social protection assistance for vulnerable people groups and shelters for people suffering from leprosy in Ayeyawady Region, Yangon Region and Shan State through video conferencing yesterday.
The assistance was provided as per COVID-19 Economic Relief Plan (CERP) which aims to remedy the country’s economy during the COVID-19 period.
Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Win Myat Aye said that the Ministry had to work together with relevant regional and state governments, and civil society organizations to implement the Government’s social protection activities with limited State budgets, ensuring that the assistance would go to the respective beneficiaries.
Social Affair Minister of Ayeyawady Region Dr Hla Myat Thway gave greeting address and presented K1,231.860 million to 41,062 senior citizens of ages between 80 and 85, K623.580 million to 20,786 handicapped persons in Ayeyawady Region.
The Union Minister said that the amount of the financial assistance to the senior citizens and handicapped people in Ayeyawady Region can be said as much amount of money and that was to support the social economic growth of the region.
Member of Yangon City Development Committee Daw Than Myint Aung presented K6 million to the responsible person of the Social Protection Shelter in War Nat Chaung. The assistance is to cover nutrition for 3 months for 120 people in the shelter.
K12 million for three months food expenses and K7.25 million for 145 leprosy patients were donated at Myitta Parahita Shelter in Mayan Chaung village in Yangon Region.
K4.45 million as 50,000 kyat per person was donated for 89 people suffering leprosy in Hohkai Leprosy Shelter in Loilem township in Shan State. K6 million was also donated for three months of food expenses for them. The Union Minister thanked the respected departments and social organizations which helped in presenting the social protection assistance. A Member of the Parliament expressed words of thanks on behalf of the people and Deputy Minister U Soe Aung gave conclusion speech relating to the assistance as per the CERP during COVID-19 period.
