THE Security Council adopted resolution S/RES/2532 (2020) on 1 July 2020, in support of the Secretary General’s Appeal for Global Ceasefire issued on 23 March 2020.

Myanmar welcomes the ceasefire initiative which is supportive of much needed stability and peace amidst the devastation caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Tatmadaw, Myanmar Defence Forces, following the Appeal by the Secretary General, declared a ceasefire from 10 May 2020 to 30 August 2020. The ceasefire has been extended to 30 September 2020.

In the interest of sustainable stability and peace, it is the responsibility of every State to combat terror-ism. Myanmar supports Security Council resolution S/RES/1269 (1999) which “unequivocally condemns all acts, methods and practices of terrorism as criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, in all their forms and manifestations, wherever and by whomever committed”.

Myanmar will continue to combat terrorism and will fulfil its responsibility to protect its people from all acts of terrorism.
